This book is about a young Grace Dent who enjoyed food from an early age( i mean who doesn't, right!!) so it's no wonder that she ended up becoming a well-known food reviewer. We can see this for example as she developing into a massive voice on the British food scene through her modest beginnings in Carlisle. However, this is her voice and her story with her personal touch.
We are introduced to a peek of her youth, straight through from childhood her teenage years right through to maturity in her adulthood.
Every step of her life is infused with food allegories or similarities, and those nearest to her are still vividly remembered by food, including the people in her life. A chocolate bar of Cadbury's Fruit and Nut was an everlasting bond with her father, and this is something meaningful in the years of Alzheimer's when she cares about him and remembers very little of the past or even the present. This is an intense reading, happiness, crying, loss, and affection, all connected along the way with food.
