I adored this. It is definitely the best book I've read this year, and I raced through it. I wasn't aware of Grace Dent before, but the idea of a memoir with food at it's centre appealed and made it relatable to us all. That she was born in 1973 like me and also a Northern girl from a working class background appealed too.
My favourite part was reading about Grace's childhood and family life. This evoked many memories and at times really made me stop in my tracks, pause and think about a long forgotten memory.
I enjoyed reading about her escape from her Cumbrian background and her successful career in London. The telling of her necessary return to her childhood home to help care for her failing parents was such an emotional, honest read, and I also admired her honesty talking about the dilemma of trying to be the perfect wife at the same time as holding down a successful career. This is certainly a book I will be recommending to others.
