I didn't really know much about Grace Dent before reading this, I had seen her a few times on Master chef. The first part of the book details her childhood and growing up in Carlisle in the 80's and 90's. I loved the memories she describe's growing up with her family and how relatable it was to read. I love the humour throughout and she comes across as very honest and down to earth.

The second half of the book was her story of moving to London and getting her career started writing for magazines then moving to a food critic. Towards the end of the book she writes about both of her parents becoming ill. Her mother gets a cancer diagnosis and her father has dementia. It was heart-breaking to read and i really felt her pain when she writes about moving back up north to care for her parents while juggling her career until her father moved into a care home.

I loved Grace's writing and humour throughout the book and i couldn't put it down. It is definitely one of my favorite reads of 2020. I loved it.
