I thought I would like this but actually I loved it!
If you'd asked me before I started reading this book if I was interested in reading it, I'd have thought 'yeah it looks okay, but I don't really know that much about Grace Dent, I'm not a huge watcher of Masterchef and I don't eat in fancy restaurants' but on reading the novel I felt a real connection to it
This memoir is about Grace's life told through food. From her humble childhood upbringing, trying to make it as a journalist whilst living in digs in London to being a top restaurant critic eating in some of the best restaurants in the world, all stories are told with warmth, wit and an undercurrent of love for her family.
Grace and I are around the same age so a lot of the food memories she has were very nostalgic for me; findus crispy pancakes, angel delight and the exotic introduction of spaghetti bolognese in the 80s.
There is an undercurrent of sadness in this memoir, however the overwhelming feeling is of love - and I loved it!
