Wow, I really enjoyed 'Hungry' by Grace Dent, much more than I expected to. I was familiar with Dent from her appearances on MasterChef and enjoyed her passion and knowledge of food; that fizzle of excitement that builds as you discover new tastes and feelings from a plate of food.
This is a memoir of her life and relationship to food and it was a mix of laughter and sadness but always with an underscore of family, ambitions and challenges that we face along our journeys.
I really enjoyed Dent's sense of humour, and that's what made the book 'sing' and resonate with me more. There's a lovely sense of nostalgia and a glimpse into Dent's past and we get to see her determination to succeed and evolve into the journalist and writer she became.
My family is also living with Dementia and are in the early stages of dealing with this awful, destructive disease, so I found reading her father's journey very interesting.
I really enjoyed this and would definitely recommend it.
