This is a fascinating memoir that really resonates with anyone who has grown up in the same era. It is the sort of book that grabs your attention from page one and holds your interest throughout. Although not an easy read at times, you do have a lot of empathy and sympathy with the author. There are genuine moments of emotion - both happy and sad - and you can really get to grips with the story as it progresses. Her descriptions of her father's illness, and the length of time that it took the family to recognise what was really going on, provide moments of genuine heartbreak. The whole story takes you back to the seventies and eighties and is full of moments of genuine emotion. I have enjoyed watching Grace on the television and this memoir captures the essence of her character. She is a determined young woman who will do whatever is necessary to get to where she needs to be.
