Synopsis: Laure is an aspiring top level ballet dancer, overlooked until a pact changes everything. She heads into the dark, deep catacombs within the underworld of Paris where a river of blood awaits her.

Here is a book that I wasn’t expecting! With preconceived ideas of ballet with someone of colour I was anticipating a Black Swan style novel. This is not that by any means. It does depict the tough competition within the world of ballet, the hard work of each dancer, their dedication and bleeding feet. But then the blood just keeps on going, to the extent of a river of it. The book delves deeply and darkly into a whole other world.

There are themes of racism, self harm and murder which I feel is important to know in advance for an YA book.

The cover deserves a mention - eye catching and literally glistening and shimmering in the light and on a shelf.
