I was surprised by this one, not as I expected at all.
Laurence was a ballerina at a ballet school,The Paris Ballet in France. Her friend,Coralie Baumé was also there, they had been friends ever since meeting at their first dance lesson and had done everything together ever since but there was a difference that meant a lot in ballet, Coralie’s family was rich,her mother had been a ballerina before her and had gone far, she had gone far and everyone knew her,she now worked at the school. The other difference was Coralie was white while Laurence was poor and coloured. It seemed that she had to do better but was still not getting the recognition that she deserved to.
Everyone at the school thought her family were dead but in truth her mother had walked out when she was young and her father didn’t want her to do ballet and had cut her off.
What would you do if you could have your wishes granted just by doing one thing, would you?
I’m afraid that although the book had a lot that was good in it, I couldn’t understand all the ballet moves and what she was having to do which rather ruined it for me, I didn’t realise just how much ballet was going to be in it, looking at the cover I never expected it, probably I should have.
