I'm not massively sure what I made of this book really... it's bonkers!
The story centres around the character of Laure, a ballerina with huge ambition who will stop at nothing to achieve her dreams and the life she feels she deserves. I really liked the ballet elements of the book - it reminded me a little bit of Black Swan, which is one of my favourite films. You really get a feel for the intensity, drama and high stakes that such a career involves, and Laure's immense determination and strong will (that's putting it VERY lightly!)
The horror/monster side of the story I struggled with more, however. For quite a lot of these bits I couldn't really quite work out what was going on - it's frenetic, it's visceral, and completely detached from reality.
I also wasn't sure who the book is for. I think it's intended as a young adult book but I don't think I'd be happy for my 13 year old sister to read it.
Overall, a bit much - and only partly in a good way.
