From the opening line you are filled with questions. Why would everyone assume Will is sad? Why did Evan's father leave? What was the conversation two night ago? Why is he drawn to the North? What did Heather Abernethy say about Will that caused such a reaction?

Then a swap to Shosh and yet more imagery and questions. The sunrise brought to life compared to a shattered life. The pull again to cold northern climates.

Back in time to Paris and the love that brought two broken, aimless souls together, then tore them apart.

Yet flowing through all their lives is the bird, the song of sadness that pulls and is heard only by their hearts.

The book cover is beautiful and again conjures imagery, the cool blues echoing the pull to the north with the bird showing as a bright light bringing our two protagonists together.

The only negative for me was the swearing, but I suppose it was true to life and the ages of Evan and Shosh.
