Evan is protecting his younger brother from a world that does not tolerate uniqueness and from their mothers fight with cancer. Mystical messages in song form begin to draw Evan and shosh together by invading their thoughts during emotionally distraught moments. The lyrics become instructions and the reader gets glimpses of the same union through several lifetimes.
