I really liked the way this story started. It describes Evans' thoughts on his little seven year old brother and how he wished people could understand that he is just different. The one thing he has learnt is that when his dad left he realised how hard his mum works and how much more he has to do.
His friend Ali is the one person who he feels sees and understands him completely and leaving a party with her he sees a bird in a tree with it's song echoing around the park.
Then there is Shosh a troubled girl ever since her sister Stevie died. At the beginning of the story Shosh sees a bird flying straight for the sunrise. It wasn't the bird itself that demanded attention so much as the impression of the bird.
Both Evan and Shosh hear the bird song throughout the story and it draws them together. Fast forward to Lofoten Island in 2066 they have their final adventure together. Well written and an enjoyable read.
