This book definitely made me think - the concept of having songs only you can hear which draws you towards your soulmate seemed a little far-fetched, but I've always liked the idea of soulmates. Having the chapters interspersed with people from history who also heard the songs and were drawn together showed the overarching power of the songs but sometimes distracted from the main story. The main characters were likeable but facing different challenges in their lives so could be classed as both being a bit of a mess! I liked that it wasn't just about the romance, there were other side stories about friendship and family. It confused me a little when the guy in the bar started singing the Nightbird's songs, it felt like that could have been explored a bit more but the story thread was just ditched. On the whole it was an enjoyable book with a nicely tied up ending.
