Although Written from the perspective of Robins many years of stand up comedy, it’s not just a book about comedy. Informing, funny but also dealing with hard subjects such as death with empaphy and kindness.

Visiting experts, people with life experiences and other comedians, Robin covers many aspects of human nature. The flow between different topics holding to the central theme nicely.

Taking in Freud and Jung, the professional psychological thoughts on the mind and comedy are discussed.

The part that I enjoyed the most was the discussion on the human minds tendency to think of weird things and if/how these are communicated with others. If you think you’re psychotic for thinking of throwing a kitten into a river, guess what? You’re probably not, so it can put some at ease with their own internal conflicts to know that we are not alone.

These taboo subjects can often generate comedy, but is it healthy to laugh at morbid thoughts? What about the morality of introducing darkness to comedy and where should the line be drawn? Asking the right questions made some really interesting reading.

Finishing this book has left me with answers to why people do wacky things and how that relates to comedy. It has also given fresh impetus to my own creative side.

This book should appeal to many, a great read.
