For adults, the cover is reminiscent of mid-twentieth century adventure novels with its restricted colour palette and choice of angle and fonts. The setting and plot outlined by the publisher's blurb is interesting and innovative. I already feel inclined to recommend I Spy to young readers and also to send copies to my young relatives in California.

The writing is very good with a great mixture of action and background, sufficient description and a subtle lyricism. The use of vocabulary which may be slightly challenging to the youngest readers (chevron, siphoning) is carefully executed so meanings can be gleaned from the context. I'm keen to read this book which has an excellent chance of introducing the Bletchley Park story to another generation. It would be a good basis for a children's television series.
