I loved the cover of this book, it feels very retro and also akin to the famous five stories. It is a gripping mystery, adventure story set during 1939 (second World War) and the main character is twelve-year-old Robyn who lives at Bletchley Park, where her father works as a driver. The book authentically shows the impact of war on changing everything and for Robyn this means that that everything at her home in Bletchley changes.
The author is very descriptive when setting scenes and I liked the attention to detail she uses and her use of words to create vivid pictures in your mind of the environment and what was happening. I liked how chapters are dated and I can imagine that this book will become an enjoyable key fiction text for children learning about World War Two.
I would recommend this book as I think it is a good story and it is true to its history so young readers can enjoy the story whilst also absorbing some of the realities of living during the Second World War.
