History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unloved, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again

‘I can totally see this book becoming a Sunday teatime series on the bbc that’s how good it was’

What first drew me to this book was (I’m not going to lie) the absolute stunning cover then finding out it was a Second World War mystery one of my favourite time periods to read about.

I got this book from my local indie bookshop Griffin Books. They have a great middle grade/ya display section which I always head to first when browsing/shopping and nearly always find a book to buy or to look up

I Spy by Rhian Tracey is an upper middle grade World War Two mystery that takes place at Bletchley Park- which I’ll admit I didn’t know too much about going into this novel.
The book focuses on our main character 12 year old Robyn who is a young girl living at Bletchley Park with her parents (where her father is a driver) when war is declared. I won’t say any more than that as it would give the mystery and plot of the book away. But what I will say is that this is a fantastically well written novel with just the right amount of suspense and emotion that makes you care for all the characters and needing to know what happens to them right up till the end of the story

You know when you love a book so much that you just have to share it with someone so I gave it to my mum to read and it’s safe to say that she loved it as well. And we are now both looking forward to Rhian Tracey’s next book which I believe is coming out next year sometime
