The story opens with Lydia, fearing she will never find love and, with the help of her since diapers friend Danny, deciding that if neither are married by the time they both turn thirty they'll get together. Making a deal for marriage at twenty could be argued as an early quarter-life crisis but for Lydia, it seems to offer her some semblance of comfort.

We then, of course, jump forward, Lydia now approaching thirty is still having a difficult time at life as she now navigates an unfulfilling job that refuses to recognise her potential and a terrible love life. While there's no mention of Danny, based on the blurb we can assume he's coming in soon, and for Lydia's sanity, I imagine not a moment too soon.

I loved the writing and how quickly we could sympathise with Lydia. Danny is equally likeable but being that we only see him for a few pages and the story is told entirely in Lydia's POV it's hard to know what he's thinking. I really liked the plot, and this idea of childhood friends reuniting to find love. The promising plot could be the start of something great, but this mostly depends on how the character reunite and their chemistry.
