At the age of 21 Lydia was already worrying that marriage was never going to happen for her. So at her sister’s wedding she confided her fears to Danny Whittaker, the son of her mum’s best friend. He‘s always been her crush. Danny suggested that if they were both still single at thirty, they should marry each other. Nine years later, Lydia has broken up with her long-term boyfriend, has a dead-end job in Portsmouth and is surrounded by successful friends. So her mum Linda buys her a plane ticket to stay at an apartment in Barcelona. Lydia jumps at the chance of a free holiday in sunny Spain. She didn’t expect to bump into Danny there…

„If We‘re not married by Thirty“ is a romantic comedy by Anna Bell.

My opinion:
The novel starts with a prologue (June 2009) and consists of 31 chapters. There is also a chapter called „What Happens Next“. The actual plot begins in 2018. The story is told from the first-person perspective from Lydia's point of view. This setup works well.

The writing style is simple, but vivid and pleasant to read. I was able to immerse myself in the story.

I liked the characters. The story itself is quite shallow in terms of content, but entertaining. There are misunderstandings and mishaps. That makes the book funny and overall enjoyable. Having read one of Anna Bell‘s books before, I knew what to expect. Overall, I wasn‘t disappointed.

The cover is unspectacular but perfectly fitting. The title is quite long but it fits well, too.

My conclusion:
„If We‘re not married by Thirty“ by Anna Bell is not a demanding read, but nice and amusing entertainment.
