As I'm not very good at reading non-fiction, I wasn't too sure what I was going to make of this book. It definitely took me longer than the equivalent number of pages in a novel would have. The author is fairly different to me - an oxbridge graduate who clearly came from a privileged background with far more wealth than the majority of the population. In general, this tends to put me off reading something, so the fact that her writing was still able to keep me engaged and interested is a testament to both the topic and her own writing style. I loved that there was even a cameo by the author of 'Anatomy of a Soldier' - Harry Parker.

I felt that it had a lot to teach about modern history and that it was done so in a worthwhile way. Definitely worth reading.
