I looked forward to reading this book and I wasn't disappointed. Emma Sky has a natural way of connecting with both local people and officials on her travels from Tunisia to Kyrgyzstan. The book highlights and explains the opinions and thoughts of the people meet on the way and also many of the events behind the headlines. However it is not always possible to explain everything even with the insight the author has from living in the Middle East most of her adult life. Conclusions are dawn between some of the events in the book with the reverberations felt in Europe and the result of the Britain's 2016 referendum. Although this book is based on the author's travels and experiences it does cover a wide spectrum of ideas and probably deserves a second read to hoist in all the detail.
