This book covers so many themes, all poignant to the YA/teens it is aimed at. Motherhood, first loves... gets me straight away. I loved the multiple points of view, told first by a daughter, and then by that daughters daughter, and the movement through time. The clever plot line that incorporated so many issues for young people, or indeed the world, today, while still managing to keep within the realms of reality - not so many issues as to make it far-fetched. But what makes this book truly special is the poetic language in which it is written: truly mesmerising. The author bio at the back of the book says that Ava is the protégée of the writer of 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' and honestly, after reading this book, its easy to see why. Best book I've read in a long time.
