I don't think I can express in words how much I enjoyed this book but I'm going to try. In Search Of Us is a story about the powerful relationship between mothers and daughters and how our relationships with others and the knowledge about our history can impact on our sense of self.

Dellaira did a fantastic job of writing every character in a realistic way, nobody is without their flaws and this adds to the emotional impact of the book. I loved the dual perspective as it helped show all aspects of Marilyn and Angie's personalities and shed some light on the decisions they made.

Despite knowing all along Marilyn's story could not have the happy ending she was hopeful for I couldn't stop myself from wishing everything would resolve itself. No matter how much I tried I could not protect myself from the heartbreak I could see coming from the start of the book and I definitely shed a tear or a hundred over the revelation of what happened to Marilyn.

This book deals with some very heavy issues of racism, addiction, abuse and child sexual abuse but I felt like all of these were dealt with in a respectful way and were not just included for shock value.

Overall I don't really have anything bad to say about In Search Of Us and I will definitely be keeping my eye out for any future books from Ava Dellaira.
