I really must remind myself that I should not judge a book solely by its cover. I thought In Search of Us was going to be a sugary-sweet young-adult novel with too much romance and heartache. Yes, there was romance, and there was heartache by the bucketful, but this book delivered much more than that.

This is the story of a mother and her daughter, told when each of them is aged seventeen. Marilyn has just met Angie's father James, and Angie is about to embark on a journey to find him. It's a nicely-written book, told from two different perspectives, and I especially enjoyed reading about how Marilyn met James and the rest of his lovely, welcoming family. I wasn't too keen on the relationship between Angie and her on / off boyfriend Sam, and I would have liked to have learned more about Marilyn when Angie was a child, but these are minor criticisms of a book which I enjoyed reading and would happily recommend.
