Thought Provoking Short Stories Highlighting Racism

In Inside Alcatraz and Other Stories are eleven short stories by Andrew Chatora highlighting the ongoing problems of racism in the UK and the political situation in Zimbabwe, both serious and worrying topics. As a young woman I recall one of the popular songs was Young, Gifted and Black. Growing up in a small town in Scotland I was virtually unaware of racism in the UK. I read about, and greatly admired, Rosa Parks but thought that racism was most predominant in the US, after all segregation didn't exist in the UK. It's enlightening and educational to read the words of someone who has experienced racism which has no place in the 21st century. In all honesty, I don't agree with everything the author has written but I sincerely hope that we can all look forward to a future where we can accept one another without judgement. Unfortunately racism isn't the only issue today, there is a lack of democracy in many countries of every colour and many groups still struggle to be accepted in society.
