Firstly, I am so grateful for the personalised copy. What a lovely gesture from the author!

This collection of short stories isn’t something I’d normally pick for myself so I am grateful for the opportunity to be able to do so now.

Within this collection, we meet characters from all different walks of life. We see the lives of Zimbabweans presented from Harare prison to the working class Mutare and its domain of shebeen queens to suburban Harare and a politically charged United Kingdom in a post Brexit world.

The collection is overwhelming. Each story, despite their differences, feature the same common theme: the suffocation and desperation of Zimbabwe and her Diaspora making this at times, despite being a brilliant read, remarkably uncomfortable.

Regardless, I am really privileged and honoured to receive a copy of this. It’s been a reading experience that is different to many others.
