Firstly can we mention how much I love the illustrations of the bats (they’re so cute) and the map at the beginning. The cover of the book is absolutely beautiful too and would stand out on a book shelf. The extract introduces us to Tavia who already seems like a protagonist that I’m going to love. She takes no nonsense and is incredibly witty/intelligent. With this specific quote already standing out to me: ‘nonsense was Tavia’s greatest commodity’. The extract additionally introduces us to magic and it’s use as an element of performance (especially as a facade). This book seems extremely promising and is definitely something that I’d love to read especially with all these elements. I’d love to see how Tavia’s character progresses throughout the narrative.
