I was hooked by this book after reading the first impression. There is something magical about this book, from the beautiful cover art to the chapter illustrations and to the detailed map at the beginning.
This story is based around 4 main characters, Tavia - a busker, Wesley - The Underboss, Karam - a fighter and Saxony - a crafter of magic. These 4 outsiders have to come together in a world where you can trust no one, to save their city from a new form of dark magic being created by the Kingpin.
I found the way in which Alexandra Christo writes each chapter from each main characters’ point of view very easy to follow & I like how through each chapter you get a little more of an insight into their background story each time. The idea of magic being something that could be traded as tricks or charms is a brilliant idea.
This book does end on a cliff hanger ready for the next book in the series which I can’t wait to continue with and find out what happens next!
