I was pretty excited to start reading this book, since I love the fantasy genre and I'd never read anything by this author before so I was looking forward to becoming immersed into a new world. However once I started reading it, I felt that it was kind of an average fantasy novel, and nothing seemed to hugely set it apart from the many other fantasy novels I've read in the past. Despite this, I still enjoyed the book and finished it pretty quickly. I think this is going to be a pair of books, but I'm not sure if I'll read the sequel, whilst this was a nice read, it didn't particularly motivate me to go out and buy the next book. Overall, I'd say this is a nice book to read if you have the time, but maybe not for the top of your 'to read' list.
