I wanted to like it so much from the blurb, as the story is set in a magical kingdom, sounded right up my street, but i was left disappointed.

I tried, on two separate occasions to read this book, but i just could not engage with it at all and gave up entirely around 200 pages in.

I can't even put my finger on exactly what it was that was causing me issues with finishing it. I couldn't get immersed properly in the world, it felt like it was trying too hard with it's magic elements.

The characters just didn't do anything for me, they didn't make me care enough what happened to them, and quite a few were just annoying. The main character seemed far too impulsive and ready to dive in to any situation, should have been dead several times over and putting everyone else in danger just made me angry every time she appeared.

It felt like this was a book that was written earlier in a career then kept in a drawer, and is only being brought out so it sells better off the back of the previous one's success.
