As a fan of fantasy, I was excited to read this book.

The book revolves around Tavia Syn who is the main character who sells dark magic in the streets of Creije, counting the days until her debt is paid and she can leave for good. Things take a bad turn when Tavia uncovers a sinister plot, and has to form an alliance with three other criminals.

When I first read the blurb, it reminded me a lot of the book Six of Crows. It may not be as much of an original storyline, but it does has its twists and turns to make it interesting and full of mysterious events. I love the world building - it really makes the world come alive with magic.

The characters were all very good. Tavia makes a great protagonist. Even though she was a criminal, she still didn't lose sight of what was important. I especially liked Saxony, who was a LGBTQ character, determined to find her sister.

Overall, although a bit cliché, it was a really good read.
