from what I read, this is an amazing kind of mix of fantasy and science fiction book. It's set in an alternate world in a city called Creji, where magic is dangerous and "buskers" con people into buying their wares. I love this kind of writing because the author can really let loose with what they write and not stick to the rules of our world, and that is what Alexandra Christo is doing with the characters and the city.
One of the best details so far is that Tavia, our main character is not trying to pretend she is something she isn't. she is just trying to survive- she isn't interested in riched or tricking people. thought for her those are happy side effects of the crimes she commits. Also, she is written very closed off so as you read you get a feel for who she is as a person, rather than getting all the information at once. it makes the story more interesting
She is under the command of the rich and snotty, Wesley Thornton Wallcot, who in her own words is a "complete jackass", I love how the author has written their relationship. you can tell there is so much history between them but it is hard to figure out what exactly it is.
