f If I were to summarise my thoughts about this book in one word, I will say it is passable. I read a lot of fantasy, and there was nothing about INTO THE CROOKED PLACE that stood out to me, as it fits the same pattern as many other best-selling YA titles these days, to the point where over-saturation has made them nearly indistinguishable from one another. The plot takes place in Creije, a magical city where sorcery is prohibited (whoomp, there it is). Black market dealers hawk spells and herbs to people looking for a quick buck at night, splitting the money with their crime lord bosses. Tavia is one of them, and her employer, Wesley, was a childhood friend of hers before he was tainted by power and became almost as evil as the rest of them. It wasn't exactly my cup of tea, but it kept me amused and interested in a way that other books had neglected to do. Since this book ends with a cliffhanger, I'm excited to see how everyone turns out in the sequel.
