What a shame. Left high and dry waiting for the next instalment. It is most unfair to the reader to leave everything unresolved.
Alexandra Christo writes well. This second novel took quite a while to grip the reader and she finished the book by size rather than content. It will all be forgotten by the time the second book is published.
Once the heroes start their journey the book keeps you reading. It is quite a feat to imagine a whole new realm with magic at its centre. Most of the characters are well rounded but there are lots of supporting cast members that need too much explanation to make them make sense. Perhaps the book would have been better to have written it from one persons perspective rather than many.
