I loved Alexandra Christou's first book To Kill A Kingdom and I therefore had high hopes for Into the Crooked Place but sadly I was disappointed as it just wasn't as good. The book is about a group of young crooks in a fantasy world who plan to take down their leader after they discover he is using magic. It reminded me of Crooked kingdom by Leigh Bardugo in that it is a heist novel set in a fantasy world but sadly its not as strong as Bardugo's novel.

Firstly the setting and the world building are not as developed as they could be which was surprising as this was a strength of the author's first novel. Secondly the characters were either annoying and uninteresting or just not very fleshed out and detailed.
