I read the First Looks for this book and the Titanic Sisters after being nagged for ages by one of my friends to try reading something other than murder mysteries or legal thrillers for once and I am so glad that I did.

I was immediately intrigued by the mention of magic as well as the legalities surrounding it and found the author's use of the last name 'Syn' for one of the main characters (Tavia) rather amusing. The opening scene where Tavia attempts to woo a crowd with her false magic in order to make money and convince a skeptical man of its legitimacy is very captivating and well-written, leaving me hungry for more. When I received my free copy of this book, I immediately devoured it despite also having my GCSEs this year as the storytelling was brilliant, the characters complex and realistic and the plot kept me interested the whole way through - I cannot wait for the next book in the series!
