The cover could be more vibrant round the edges to draw the reader into the night scene on the cover. However it is intriguing and I would like to read this book as the cover matches the title which supports the story! This also makes the reader want to read the first book too including an advertisement of The Dark Lake, Sarah Baileys first novel. The first few pages allow you to understand some of the story and main character without reading the first book which is great. Starting with a murder is always interesting but perhaps predictable? Relatable character, allows personal information right from the beginning, drawing a reader into the book straight away!
