Into the Night is an easy-to-read police procedural novel with a strong yet flawed female protagonist at its centre. It is the second book in the Detective Gemma Woodstock series but the first one that I have read. Despite being a newcomer to the series, I had no problems following the plot or the characters and I thought the book worked well as a standalone novel.

The book itself was well structured, with an engaging narrative and a reasonably paced plot. The rich array of characters, many of whom were suspects, helped to drive the plot forwards and kept me guessing until the end.

I would recommend Into the Night to both existing fans and newcomers to the Detective Gemma Woodstock series and I look forward to reading more books by this author.
