For starters I read the first impression of this book and was really excited to get to the rest of it. Doing a 50 books challenge this year and have a mountain of a to-do list but I'm so glad I squeezed this one in. I read this book on the plane home from my holidays and nothing was going to distract me away from the words. It was so gripping and emotional, it blindsided me with emotion and it nearly had me in tears many times.
It's such a beautiful story and so well written which makes it so easy to read. I highly recommend this book, for an escape into a beautiful Cretan countryside with a larger than life, colourful Greek family and into the powerful and emotional story of a courageous woman's past.
I especially love how the relationship between grandmother and granddaughter immediately takes shape, they have a bond from the minute Angelika steps through Maria's door.
I could not put this down, it's an absolute must read and I have to give it 5 stars!!!
