This is the continued story of Nora, one time alcoholic, failed mother and totally screwed up product of the foster care system. Nora having been approached by an unknown man in a park sets off on a trip to Detroit to learn about the life of her father, whose suicide ultimately led to her being take into care. Nora soon finds herself surrounded by mayhem as she finds herself facing dead end after dead end while people start to die around her. Then she unexpectedly discovers who and what her mother was and how this has impacted upon her own life and that of her daughter whom she gave up for adoption.
While this is a stand-alone novel it does follow on from the first story about Nora and as such it may be better to have read this book before this one. I did find it hard to build up a degree of empathy for Nora until late on in the book possibly because I was unaware of her complete backstory until this point and this rather impacted on my enjoyment of this book.
