Firstly I was not aware that there was a previous Nora Watts thriller when I started reading this book. If I had, then I probably wouldn't have felt so confused and convinced that I hadn't been concentrating properly on It All Falls Down! Saying that, the book does more or less work as a stand alone novel.

Nora is not always a likeable character but her single-minded pursuit to find the truth surrounding her father's death is well written and well paced. Following her journey to discover why her mother left her and her sister many years before was often engrossing. Although I enjoy a thriller, however, I sometimes found this a little dark and depressing, especially with the descriptions of Detroit.
