I hadn't expected to be hooked ... but I am!
I haven't read any earlier books from this author's earlier books and must admit that when I read the publisher's synopsis I felt pretty sure that this story would be too lightweight to appeal to me ... then I read the First look and was hooked!
Each of the characters is so well-portrayed that they almost leapt from the page because they felt so instantly recognisable ... I already know that as I get to know them they are likely to both amuse and irritate me! Middle-class competitiveness and school-gate/ playground politics are endlessly fascinating and I'm sure this story will contain both.
I loved the tension which was introduced in the first chapter, signalling an intriguing, darker side to the story. Who was pulled from the river? Are the police dealing with a tragic accident or a murder? And, if the latter, who's the murderer? I do hope I'll be fortunate enough to win a copy so that I'll find out ... I also want to know whether Porcupine ever decides to return home!!
