The comparison to Motherland had me interested in this book but this truth is that the cover and title are so eye catching that I’d be highly likely to pick this up in a book shop to read the blurb anyway so it’s a win there.

It seemed every character in this story had secrets to keep and an agenda. Whilst I found Beverly the main character rather hard to connect with I could relate to the playground politics and cliques of parents. I also found it had a similar feel to big little lies and enjoyed that element very much.

I liked the short chapters with police reports and felt the build up was just right. There’s probably a lot of truth in it too as a Mother struggles to hold her perfectly crafted life together following a scandal involving her child. I just struggled to relate to the main character a bit too much hence the dropped star. But it was on the hole an enjoyable read and would read other books by this author.
