Beverley Franklin is part of 'The Lakers'... a group of parents that meet every Thursday to organise fundraisers and outings for the attendees of Glass Lake Primary School. This year, Beverley is organising the annual school musical, and a television crew is going to be there! So when a scandal involving her own daughter threatens to derail the whole thing, Beverley pulls out all the stops to keep it on track...

After opening with quite a thrilling first chapter (What tragic accident?? Who's died??), I initially found the plot to be quite a slow burner. It was sold to me as Motherland in book form, so the comedy elements kept it ticking over, but I felt like it took a long time to get to the main event.

This book has some fab characters though... I'm not a parent myself, but I imagine these are exactly the type of mums you see at the school gate! Although they may be secondary characters, I particularly loved Frances and Mrs Rogers' (and not forgetting Porcupine the cat!) They both had some brilliant one-liners.

I found the ending surprising, and it had a few twists and turns I didn't see coming. It was definitely worth sticking with it to get to the conclusion. I would recommend reading if you're after something lighthearted yet mysterious!
