This novel is a sort of Leanne Moriarty's 'Big Little Lies' meets 'Motherland' set in Ireland. It deals in a humorous way with parenting in the twenty first century and many readers will recognise the different mothers portrayed. I particularly found the presentation of the inner world of the anxious child very touching. The novel also focuses in on the issue of the online world for children. This is definitely a read for mums, but not exclusively. Many will be able to relate to the dilemmas faced by the main characters. The dialogue is very witty and funny. The disappearance of the family cat for instance is well done. The central female characters, members of the so called 'Lakers' are perhaps a little stereotypical. However there are moments of genuine feeling and emotion and it's a strength that the writer moves from the serious to humorous effortlessly.
