It Could Never Happen Here tells the story of Glass Lake school and its community. There are several plots running simultaneously, including a school musical thwarted by a death, mass hatred for a family, under age sexting and even cat abduction. This is not the light read the coffee cup cover conveys! There is depth, troubled characters and tough topics but these are complemented with genuine Irish humour and some real laugh out loud moments.

Overall I enjoyed the book the whole way through. It is modern, relatable and with a good balance of light and shade. As the story unfolds there are many clever twists and turns. The book would be enjoyed by followers of the TV show Motherland and books by Marian Keyes.
