Jar of Hearts is a gripping and suspenseful psychological thriller. I requested the book to review after reading a sample of about 3 chapters. I went through so many emotions in those few chapters that I knew I had to read the book. The story is centred on Georgina Shaw, thirty years old and a successful career woman working in the pharmaceutical industry. However, soon after our introduction to Geo we learn that she is hiding a deep dark secret – she helped cover up the murder of one of her high school best friends, Angela, 14 years ago and now her other high school best friend, Kaiser, as come to arrest her for the crime. Geo accepts a plea bargain and testifies against her high school boyfriend, Calvin. She is sentence to 5 years in prison while he receives a life sentence for Angela’s murder and another 3 life sentences for the other 3 woman he is convicted of killing in the 14 years since Angela’s death. However, Calvin never makes it to jail, he escapes. Geo is safe for now behind bars but if they don’t catch him what will happen when she is finally released.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and read it fairly quickly because I just couldn’t put it down. I do worry a little about what this says about me as the story is full of awful, harrowing and shocking events. I gasped allowed, needed a quick breather and covered my open mouth with my hand in shock several times whilst reading this book. Be warned – it is not for the faint-hearted. If however you can handle a really gritty storyline and enjoy a psychological thriller then I highly recommend this book.
