Pretty much from the start we know that our main character, Geo, deserves to be in prison- which is quite unusual to be forced by the author to have sympathy with someone in this situation, but as the story develops, we are aware everything is not quite as it seems.
I was hooked. There are lots of twists, tension is built up, and the reader’s sympathy does lie with Geo. Partly, I felt, because she is shown to have a level of self awareness & discovery during the course of the novel.
I also liked Kaiser, although whether they could have stayed such close friends in that situation is debatable.
The story flowed seamlessly between the present day and the past, and I wanted to find out what the twist was going to be. I did guess it, but still felt it was well done.
