This book is phenomenal - dark, intense, gritty and totally gripping! It drew me in right away and I was completely engrossed as the story unravelled. I found the characters engaging and the plot totally enthralling. The pace was perfect and I loved how the story alternated between the past and present. The author does not shy away from potentially distressing themes, such as violence, rape, murder and dismemberment, so it did make me feel uncomfortable at times. However, this is one of the reasons why I enjoy thrillers; They take me out of my comfort zone and sweep me away from the everyday, and this book certainly did just that. The story took me on an emotional roller-coaster ride and I could not put it down, even when it became hard to read. It is the first book I have read by Jennifer Hillier and it will not be the last.
