Jar of Hearts is the first book I have ever read by this writer - I’m so glad I picked it up. I was really impressed with how the story was constructed - we follow the perspective of the two main characters, Geo and Kaiser. The narrative flows between them and also between the past and present very well.

Trigger warning - Hillier definitely does not shy away from the dark, gritty sides of this story. Scenes of rape are described in vivid detail, so if you are a reader who is sensitive to subject matters such as this, please tread cautiously.

It’s hard to say too much about this book without giving anything away. I did think that the build-up to the reveal was more exciting than the actual reveal itself, but that may just be me.
I did guess the end, but I think if you’re looking for a psychological thriller with some mystery and long buried secrets coming to light, you should definitely read this book. I would definitely read more from this author.
